The Quick Install Instructions outline the basic steps of installing
ViewBuilder Basic Network Management software, the Graphical LinkBuilder
application, and the Desktop Management software.

These instructions are intended for the person that understands the concepts
of the installation process, but cannot remember all of the steps to do a
quick installation. These instructions should allow you to have ViewBuilder
up and running in 20 minutes or less.

Assumptions: It is assumed that you have installed ViewBuilder at least once
and that you are completely familiar with the processes, concepts, and
procedures of the installation process.

Process:

1. Install LAN MAN client software first, then TCP/IP. Installation of
LAN MAN client software is optional.

2. Install ViewBuilder Basic Network Management disks 1 through 6.

    a. Install Network Management Station software.

    b. If you boot hubs from this NMS, select "yes" to run BOOTP and TFTP
        servers during startup time.

Note: ViewBuilder Basic Management software must be installed before
installing either the Graphical LinkBuilder Application or the Desktop
Management software.

3. (Optional) Install Graphical LinkBuilder Application disks 1 through 2.

4. (Optional) Install Desktop Management for ViewBuilder disk.

5. Edit SNMP.CFG. The file is located in C:\VIEWBLDR\DATA\OTHER.

    a. Remove or use # to comment out the following lines, found at the
        end of the file:

        # public Trivial R None 139.0.0.0 0.255.255.255
        # 3Com Trivial R+W None 139.0.0.0 0.255.255.255

    b. Add a line at the bottom of the file that looks like this:

        public  Trivial R+W GE+AU   <vb ip address> 0.0.0.0

<vb ip address> is the IP address of your ViewBuilder Network Management
station.

Save your changes and exit the file.

6. If you installed the Graphical LinkBuilder Application, do the
following sub-steps.

    a. Edit SNMP500.CFG if you will be booting a LinkBuilder hub. It is
located in C:\VIEWBLDR\DATA\BOOTP. Edit or uncomment the following
        lines as needed:

        netmask <appropriate subnet mask>
        default-router <default router ip address>
        trap-receiver <viewblder ip address> trap-community <community name>
        location <enter appropriate info here>

    b. Edit BOOTP.DAT.

Remove or comment out the following line:

        hub1 subnet1 1 00.00.81.01.92.0c 139.87.161.60 linkbuilder

Add a line for each hub that this ViewBuilder station will boot:

        <hubname> subnet1 1 <hub enet addr> <hub ip addr> linkbuilder

7. (Optional) Create a HOSTS file in C:\ETC. Place the IP address and
host name of each device you wish to access via this method. For example:

        128.1.1.101 VBUILDER
        128.1.1.226 nb1
        128.1.1.240 hub1

Do not forget to put a carriage return at the end of the last line.

8. Reboot your ViewBuilder station.

9. Configure the discovery process.

    A. Configure Discovery Manager. There are several items within the
Discovery Server that need to be edited. Access the Discovery
Server submenu from the Control Panel/Configure menu.

Order the MED discovery domains in the order you wish discovered
nodes to be entered in the MED; for example:

        1 \DNS
        2 \IP
        4 \ENET
        3 \DME
        5 \ETC

        Enter Discovery servers information.

    B. Configure the Discovery Server. If you will be discovering nodes
via a Domain Name Service, enter the appropriate zone and IP address
information. If not, skip this step.

10. Launch TFTP server and BOOTP server if they are not already running.

11. Launch the Discovery Manager application.

12. Probe hubs, if you have them.

13. Build a map.
