Title: 60 MB Tapes Can Be Read on 150/250 MB Tape Drives
date: 11/29/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

The 60 MB 3Server3 tapes can be read on both the Tandberg and Archive
150/250 MB tape drives. This feature allows 3Server3 files to be
restored from the 3Server3 cartridge right on to the 3Server386.

It is permissible to read or restore from the 3Server3 60 MB tape
cartridge, but NOT to write onto that cartridge. The 150/250 MB tape
drive writes at a much higher density and the 3Server3 60 MB cartridge
cannot support the higher capacity.

CAUTION: When restoring from 60 MB 3Server3 tapes, restore ONLY user
files. Do not do a full restore. The 3Server3 operating system (such as
3+ 1.2.1) will NOT run on a 3Server386.  Only the 3Server386 operating
system (3+ 1.3 and later) properly accesses the 386 processor and Adaptec
custom disk controller.

This caution does not apply when replacing an existing 60 MB tape drive with
a 150/250 MB tape drive in the 3Server3. The 3+ Share version must be 1.3.1
or later.

When using 150/250 MB tape drives, make sure the tape device driver is the
correct version:

  * For 3S/40x and 3S/5xx servers, TAPE.SYS is dated 9/88.
  * For 3S/20x servers, TDRIVE.SYS is dated 10/88.
