If you are running under MultiFinder, you probably need to raise
the amount of memory allocated to the finder, because it keeps
information in memory on all the objects in open folders. The
default memory partition for the Finder under MultiFinder is only
160 KB.

To change the amount of memory for the Finder, select the Finder
file in your system folder. Then select the GetInfo item under the
File menu. In a box at the bottom of the window increase the
allocated memory value as much as possible, depending on the
amount of memory on your system. Another helpful procedure is to
subdivide the files into separate folders.
