Title: Using WordStar 2000 on a 3Station Causes Buffer Dump to Screen
Date: 03/18/91

Platform: Wordstar 2000 installed on a 3+Open 1.1F server, running on a
3Station. (Regular DOS machines do not experience the problem.) No
testing was done on a 3+ network.

The first time the WS2 command is executed after rebooting the 3Station,
the Wordstar 2000 menu will appear. At this point, ANY key that is pressed
will cause the keyboard buffer to dump its contents onto the screen; that is,
all keystrokes typed before entering WordStar 2000 will be scrolled onto the
screen. Pressing Ctrl-Break stops the scrolling, and the user can then Edit
and run other Wordstar 2000 commands from the menu without problems.

To solve the problem, turn off the Fast Cursor option. By default, Wordstar
2000 sets up Fast Cursor. This feature indicates how quickly the cursor
moves through text or repeats a key. The range for this option is from 1 to
240 characters per second, with a default speed of 30 characters per second.

The Wordstar manual indicates that the user can turn off Fast Cursor
by using ^CF within the program, but this will not stop the keyboard buffer
from scrolling. Also, changing the Fast Cursor speed by typing ^CS and
choosing 1 for the slowest speed does not work.

To turn Fast Cursor OFF from the installation program:

1. From a regular DOS station, link to the WS2000 application.

2. Run WS2INS.

3. At the Main Menu, choose CHANGE EDITING DEFAULT SETTINGS.

4. Choose FAST CURSOR.

5. Type C to Change and adjust Fast Cursor to OFF.

6. At the Main Menu, QUIT and SAVE CHANGES.
