On the Apple Macintosh computer, a shared folder is a place where
you can put files that others can access and work on. Their
ability to work on these files is based upon the access rights
you give to the shared folder.

The following steps tell how to create a shared folder on a
Macintosh.

1. Log in to the network.

2. Link to the directories of your choice.

3. With the network icons on the right-hand side of your screen,
double click on the "Home Folder" icon to open it.

4. Hold down the command (apple) key and type N to create a new,
    empty folder.

5. Name the empty folder. A good name for this folder might be
    "Shared Data."

6. Go to the Apple icon and open the "Chooser" window.

Once the Chooser window is open you will see the icon marked
    3+File.

7. Click on the 3+File icon.

8. When the 3+File is highlighted, click on the "Network" option
    in the same window.

Notice that this window has your name at the top, and you
will see at least the "Home Folder" and your alias in the
window. You may also see some other files.

9. Click on the Home Folder to highlight it.

10. Double-click on the Home Folder to open it.
Notice that the name of the window has changed to "Home
Folder." You will also see other files and folders in this
    window.

11. Scroll down the files until you see the new folder you
    created in step 4.

12. Click on your new folder to highlight it.

13. Click on the "share" option to bring up the Access Rights
    Box.

Notice that the name of the shared folder has already been
filled in. The Access Rights box will also allow you to
    rename the your share folder.

14. Give your new folder access rights and a password. Click
"OK" when you are done to accept these attributes.

Note: If you give the share folder read, write, and create
(r/w/c) capabilities, be selective about what you put into
this folder. With r/w/c capabilities anyone can do anything
to any file within the folder.

15. At the next window click on the "Done" option.

16. At the "Chooser" window in the upper left hand corner click
on the close box to exit the window.
