Title: 3+ SNA/Rabbit and IBM Token Ring Adapters Conflict
date: 12/5/89

Background information: 3+SNA and Rabbit adapters are synonymous.
3Com OEM'd the Rabbit gateway and sold it as 3+SNA. 3Com no longer
sells 3+SNA; however, it will still be supported until June 30, 1990.
(Maxess is the new SNA gateway produced and sold by 3Com.)

While trying to establish a mainframe session via a 3+SNA gateway, a
user kept getting "unable to locate gateway" on the workstation. The
problem was that the two adapters (IBM Token Ring adapter and 3Com's
3+SNA adapter) in his gateway machine were using the same memory range
-D0000 to DFFFF. Rabbit Software, from whom 3Com OEM'd the 3+SNA
package, is aware of this conflict. Following are ways to resolve
the conflict:

1. If possible, change the memory address for the IBM Token Ring
adapter. A suggested address is C4000.

2. Call Rabbit's sales office at 1-800-245-SALE and order a chip for
the 3+SNA adapter. You need to replace the old one 200254-001 or -002
with the new one 200254-003. The new chip will change the memory
address of the 3+SNA adapter to A0000.

3Com's TokenLink adapters work fine with the 3+SNA adapter.
