3270 Configuration

The 3270 function presents a submenu to assist you in
customizing your system for maximum memory utilization,
specializing 3270 components, assigning this workstation's LAN
network name, specifying session parameters, customizing
function key assignments, and modifying color emulation.

3270 Components

This is a new section in the Workstation Configuration Program
(WCP) under 3270. The 3270 program can be configured with
optional services and parameters to allow for maximum flexibility
while using a minimum amount of memory.

Interactive/Resident (hotkey) -- TSR mode

This selection provides 3270 screen and/or printer sessions for
normal 3270 terminal emulation. When the 3270 Program is loaded,
it will be a Terminate-and-Stay-Resident (TSR) program and the
HOTKEY will be active.

When the 3270 Program is installed, Program Operation is set
to Interactive/Resident (Hotkey) by default.

When you run the 3270 Program as a hotkey program, it is
available at the touch of the HOTKEY (Alt Pad+). This allows you
to start a 3270 Program operation, such as a host inquiry, and
use the HOTKEY to go to DOS to do work with other DOS
applications. While you are in your DOS application, you can
use the HOTKEY to move in and out of the 3270 Program to check
the status of your host sessions.

You should choose Interactive/Resident (Hotkey) program
operation if the 3270 Program will be used frequently. When a
square bullet is next to this menu choice, certain options are
available. By selecting No to one or more of these options, you
can minimize memory usage.

DOS Concurrent

The DOS Concurrent Option activates the key sequence
Alt-Shift-Pad+. This key sequence causes the DOS program to
continue running when you use the HOTKEY to move to the 3270
Program. If this option is not specified, the normal key
sequence (Alt-Pad+) must be used. Alt-Pad+ causes the DOS window
to suspend until you use the HOTKEY to move back to DOS.

Do not select this option unless you are very familiar with
the DOS application you are using and are sure it will not write
to the screen directly (as opposed to going through the BIOS).
If the program updates the screen directly, the screen updates
will interfere with the 3270 Program's screen, altering the
appearance of the 3270 screen. You can use the Screen REPAINT
key (ctrl-X) to redisplay the 3270 screen if necessary.

You may also find using the DOS Concurrent Option useful when
debugging HLLAPI applications because it allows you to watch
the application execute on the 3270 screen.

NOTE: Alt-Shift-Pad+ does not support ANSI escape sequences. If an
escape sequence is output while the Alt-Shift-Pad+ is used to
Hotkey, it will appear exactly as output rather than as formatted
through the ANSI driver.

HLLAPI

The HLLAPI option specifies that the High Level Language Application
Programming Interface (HLLAPI 3.0) is available with Interactive
program operation. Because the Send and Receive commands use
HLLAPI services, this option must be enabled if you want to
use the Send and Receive commands from DOS. This option is not
required for the File Transfer Function Key (default Alt-T).

File Transfer

This option must be set if you want to interactively exchange
data with the host using the Send and Receive commands with
the File Transfer function key (default Alt-T). When used in
conjunction with the HLLAPI option, the File Transfer option
also allows you to use the Send and Receive commands from DOS.

NOTE: When the 3270 Program is installed, this option is set by
default.

On-Line Help

The On-Line Help Option specifies that on-line help is available
within the 3270 Program. You should use this option when you
are learning the product. When On-Line Help is turned off, you
can still display help information by using the HOTKEY to return
to DOS and typing '3270help' at the DOS prompt.

NOTE: When the 3270 Program is installed, this option is
set by default.

RTM Display

This option specifies that the Response Time Monitor (RTM)
Display is available. The RTM Display shows response times for
all 3270 Logical Units for a Maxess Gateway. This option does
not control RTM reporting or display the Last Transaction Time
on the 3270 Status line. These features are controlled by the
Gateway Manager and/or host applications.

NOTE: When you choose Interactive/Resident (Hotkey) program
operation and no options are selected, the file 3270M.EXE is
added to the MAXESS.BAT and 3270.BAT files. If one or more of
the options are selected, the file 3270L.EXE is used instead.

Interactive/Non-Resident -- Non-TSR mode

This selection provides 3270 screen and/or printer emulation as a
normal DOS program. When the 3270 Program is loaded, it is not
a TSR and the HOTKEY is not active.

You should choose Interactive/Non-Resident instead of
Interactive/Resident (Hotkey) if the 3270 Program will be used
lnfrequently.

When a square bullet is next to the lnteractive/Non-Resident menu
choice, certain options are available. By selecting No to one or
more of these options, you can further limit memory usage.

NOTE: The DOS Concurrent and HLLAPI options are not available when a
square bullet is next to the lnteractive/Non-Resident menu
choice. DOS Concurrent is not available because the 3270 Program
is not loaded as a TSR. The HLLAPI interface is not provided with
Interactive/Non-Resident program operation.

File Transfer

This option allows you to Interactively exchange data with the host
using the File Transfer Function Key only. (When Interactive/Non-
Resident program operation is chosen, the Send and Receive
commands cannot be used from the DOS prompt.)

RTM Display

This option specifies that the Response Time Monitor (RTM)
Display is available. The RTM Display shows response times for
all 3270 Logical links for a Gateway. This option does not
control RTM reporting to Network Management or display the Last
Transaction Time on the 3270 Status Line. These features are
controlled by the Gateway Manager and/or host applications.

NOTE: When you choose Interactive/Non-Resident program
operation, the file 3270M.EXE is added to the MAXESS.BAT and
3270.BAT files. If one or more of the options are used, the
file 3270L.EXE is used instead.

Resident API (HLLAPI only)

This selection provides a resident HLLAPI interface with no
interactive 3270 screen or printer sessions. You can exchange
files with the host using only the Send File and Receive File
functions from within a HLLAPI application. When this program
operation mode is in use, all configured screen sessions are
started when the 3270 Program is loaded (assumed Autostart
operation). Printer sessions are ignored.

You may wish to choose this selection after you have finished
developing HLLAPI applications and no longer need interactive
3270 screen sessions. You should also choose this selection
if you need to conserve memory space when running HLLAPI
applications.

When a square bullet is next to this menu choice, no options are
available.

NOTE: When you choose Resident API (HLLAPI only) program
operation, the file 3270A.EXE is added to the MAXESS.BAT and
3270.BAT files.
