Supporting a network requires a great deal of knowledge about all the
parts of the network, from the cabling to the software applications.
If there is a problem on the network, it can be difficult to know what
information you need to solve it. Following are questions that 3Com
Technical Services might use to troubleshoot networks with 3+Open printer
problems. You can use these questions to assist in your own
troubleshooting or when preparing to call 3Com Technical Services.

1. What is the error message you see?

2. What type of printer is being used?

3. What is contained in SETMODE.CMD?

4. Does the printer work without the spooler? (NET STOP spooler to
find out.)

5. What is the size of the diskcache?

6. How much free space is on C$? (You can move the userdirs sharename or
the spooler to another partition to get more free space.)

7. Did the print job get to the spooler?

8. What is the status of the print queue? Waiting? Held? Printing?

9. If the held job is deleted, will other jobs print?

10. Are there any errors on the printer?

11. Are there any errors in Net Admin?

12. Is more than one device using the COM port?

13. Is Internet using the COM port?

14. What is the size of the print job?

15. What is the MAXPRINTERS= value?

16. How many physical (COM and LPT) ports does the server have? (Add one
more if printing to NUL device.)

17. What is the size of the file being printed?

18. How much memory is in the printer?

19. (For 3+Open for Macintosh) Is the server user logged in?
