Title: Problems With Print Queues Sharing Comm Ports
Date: 03/18/91

LAN Manager allows several print queues to share the same comm port. For
most print queues there is no problem sharing comm ports. However, a problem
may arise when setting up a print queue for a printer using a print processor
such as 3Com's PostScript despooler.

No other process, including 3Com's PostScript despooler, can use a comm
port "owned" by the LAN Manager despooler. For example, suppose LAN Manager
is using COM1 in the printer device field of a print queue, as shown in the
configuration below. There will be a conflict when you create a print
queue utilizing the PostScript despooler and also configure it to use
COM1 (PHYSDEV=COM1), even though the entry in the Printer device field
for the printer using 3Com's PostScript despooler is NUL.
