If you have a Compaq Portable model A3, you NEED to know this (the
model number is inside one of the little sliding panels on the ends).

Evidently there is a nasty bug in some of Compaq's firmware that will
cause your diskette to be TRASHED if you are retrieving 3+ mail onto a
diskette. We're assuming that the same thing would occur in any file
transfer onto diskette.

So, Compaq has a ROM Bios upgrade to fix it, level J. Here's what you
do to find the revision level:

.br; Use your Compaq diagnostic diskette version 4.01 or above to boot up.
.br;Type "TEST".
.br;Choose option 5 "ROMREV"
.br;Look at the screen.

There is no good versus bad rev. It seems to be a problem specific only
to the portable A3, and my understanding is that it needs to be brought
up to J. Compaq has said that they want the current rev and a description
of the exact application and circumstance of the problem occurances.
