The compatibility testing of Tri-Data's Netway 1000A software
package with 3+Mac 1.2.1 was concluded. This package includes a
sync modem, 3274 gateway for LocalTalk, terminal emulator
application, host file transfer capability using the MacMover DA,
and 3278 keyboard emulation. The optional Macintosh-compatible
3278/Mac keyboard was not tested.

Communication was established under TSO to an IBM mainframe which
Tri-Data commonly uses.

The terminal emulation and file transfer functions were tested on a
heavily loaded LocalTalk network, with 3+Mail for Mac (1.3), 3+File, and
3+Print services running concurrently under MultiFinder.

Total time spent actually running the software was approximately 3
hours. Some additional time was spent examining the application
and data files to prepare this report.

.h3;Macintosh Configurations:
The software was tested on the following hardware configurations:

    A. 1 MB Mac Plus (single floppy)
    B. 1 MB Mac SE (dual floppy)
    C. 1 MB Mac II (40 MB HD, Etherlink NB board installed)
    D. 2.5 MB Mac SE (20 MB HD)
    E. 5 MB Mac II (40 MB HD, Etherlink NB)

.h3;Software configurations:
All machines were tested with the current Macintosh system software,
version 4.2. Most of the testing was done using MultiFinder 1.0.
The 1 MB machines could not run multiple programs under MultiFinder, due
to memory constraints.

The application program version (from the file Info) is sna.3278 rev 5.1
4/21/88 (size 143,171 bytes). The MacMover DA, which is contained
within sna.3278 is also listed as version 5.1.

All machines were also loaded with 3+Share User software, version 1.2.1.
Testing was done both with and without the 3+Mail MailMinder DA present.

.h3;Test Results:
The Tri-Data software and hardware presented no compatibility
problems with 3+Share or 3+Mail. With sufficient memory, it was
possible to run mail, print, and copy files on a 3+ server while
a host file transfer was going on.

Configuration of the Mac II, with EtherLink NB installed did present
some slight problems. It was necessary to remove the EtherTalk driver
from the system folder in order to get the Tri-Data software to properly
initialize. I believe that this is not necessarily a requirement, but
would require further testing to check. In any event, having Ethernet
configured under the Control Panel caused the configuration files
created by sna.3278 to be left in an inconsistent state. They could not
be deleted without first rebooting the machine.
