In order to install the EtherTalk drivers for the new models of Macintosh
II's (including the Macintosh IIfx, IIci, IIcx, and IIsi), you must use the
Apple Network Product Installer disk, which comes with the Macintosh
Computer, to install the adapter properly.

There is an INSTALLER program on the Apple Network Product disk. The
Installer will ask the user to insert his EtherTalk diskette--this is the
diskette that 3Com ships with the EtherLink/NB, called "EtherLink/NB
Diagnostics and EtherTalk Installer." Make sure this contains EtherTalk
2.0 for these new Apple models. The part number on the EtherLink/NB
diskette should be at least 4212-03.

Note: If you have an older version of this diskette, you can order a
free upgrade. For international customers, the upgrade is P/N 3U543-2.0
and can be ordered by 3Com offices as with any other products. Each order
contains 10 diskettes. Domestic customers who need fewer than six diskettes
can call 1-800-NET3COM, dial extension 333, and go through the Automated
Software Update Procedure.

To install the EtherTalk driver, follow these steps:

1. Make sure that the System Software has already been installed on the
Macintosh.

2. Boot the Macintosh from the "Apple Network Products Installer."

This diskette should be among the Apple System software diskettes that
came with the new Macintosh II's.

3. Double-click on the Installer icon. Select EtherTalk (and AppleShare
Workstation software, if you are on a 3+Open Macintosh or AppleShare network)
and click on INSTALL.

The installation process will prompt for an EtherTalk Installer diskette.

4. Insert the "EtherLink/NB Diagnostics and EtherTalk Installer" diskette
and the drivers will be added to the System Folder on the Macintosh's hard
disk.

5. Restart the Macintosh for the drivers to take effect.

Note: This process installs the EtherTalk 2.0 driver for Phase II. If you
need Phase I support, copy the EtherTalk 1.2 driver from the EtherLink/NB
diskette under the "Previous Version" folder to the Macintosh's System Folder.

6. Under the Apple menu, highlight the Chooser. Click on the Network icon
and choose the appropriate EtherTalk port to use--Built-in, EtherTalk 2.0,
or EtherTalk 1.2.
