Title: 3Com Server Error: Disk (2/0)/(0/0) error, 0308 00 00
Date: 4/3/91

When you are in console mode running 3C Start on a 3S/200-, 3S/400-,
3S/500-, or 3S/600-series server, the following error may appear
on the LCD:

     Disk (2/0)/(0/0) error, 0308 00 00

It appears just after "3bio\scsi\disk" and "version 1.3.1" are displayed
on the LCD.

The error occurs because the CMOS or the system could not read the disk
volume configuration information; this could be caused by many reasons
(such as a bad FAT, incorrect drive information, a bad control cable,
etc.).

After displaying the error message, the LCD freezes. In the right corner
of the LCD there will be a plus (+) sign to tell you to press the Continue
button. When the Continue button is pressed, the LCD screen will go blank
for a minute, then will display "Remote active" to indicate that a console
connection has been established.

To solve the problem, follow these steps:

1. Clear the CMOS error log. (Refer to article #09580002 for directions.)

2. Make a console connection, after bypassing the error message as described
above.

3. Clear the disk configuration information from CMOS (for 3S/400-,
3S/500-, and 3S/600-series servers):

    a. Run 3DISK386.
    b. Choose CONFIGURATION.
    c. Choose DISPLAY CONFIGURATION to view the current configuration.
Make a note of this information.
    d. Choose REMOVE ALL DRIVES to clear the CMOS.
    e. Choose ADD DRIVE--choose the base drive first (2/0).
    f. Choose CHOOSE BOOT DISK--select the correct disk size.
    g. Choose DISPLAY CONFIGURATION to make sure the base unit's
hard disk is configured as 2/0 and is bootable--the default
        setting.

4. Reformat the drive.

For 3S/400-, 3S/500-, and 3S/600-series servers: Run 3DISK386 and
format the drive as described in the server's Hardware Reference Manual.

For 3S/200-series servers: Run 3DISK and format the drive as
described in the server's Hardware Reference Manual.
