Before typing NET PASSWORD to change a password, users should know the
name of the server where their password information is stored. NET
PASSWORD will prompt the user as follows:

Type the computername where you want to change a password,
or press ENTER if it is the local Server:

However, in most cases users do not know the name of the server(s) that
have accounts belonging to them. On a DOS Enhanced workstation, if the
user presses Enter, but the local server is not the server where his or
her account is, the user will see the following error message:

ERROR: NET2106: This operation is not supported on Workstations.

This is because the term "Local Server" means the network node that is
sitting on your desk, not your "Home Server" as in 3+. Under User
Level security, a user can have different passwords on different
servers (this is unfortunate and is fixed in LM 2.0 with the Domain
Controller feature). Therefore, NET PASSWORD changes the user's
password on ONE server (either the local server or some remote server).
If there is no LOCAL server (because the workstation is a DOS client), the
NET2106 error occurs.
