Listed below are the configurations of the 3C501 and the 3C505
EtherLink boards and details on why and how to test for all Base
I/O settings.  Also included are instructions on how run the
following tests:

1: Echo Server
2: Diagnostics to the Echo Server
3: Loop-Back

                        ECHO SERVER TEST

The Echo Server Test is great for testing the network cables such
as thin ethernet.  It is less forgiving than normal usage with
3+.  It's an easy test to use and is great when you don't have an
ohm meter or are unsure of the cable specs (cable behind a wall,
ect.)

Set up one machine as an Echo Server. The Echo Server is not a
"server" in the usual sense, but instead is a normal workstation
with an EtherLink card that is programmed to "Echo" test packets
transmitted by the "testing server".

The steps are:

1: Set up one workstation as an echo server.
2: Run the diagnostics from the other workstation.
3: Read the results. If it passes, fine;  if it doesn't, you have
   general cable problems. Please see the below to get the proper
   parameters for your system.

Setting up a 3C505 as an Echo Server and running the test from a
3C501 will give false positive results for cabling errors.

The EtherLink II card has menu driven diagnostics and is self-
explanatory.  Setting up the Base I/O on a Etherlink II card is
also self-explanatory.  You just find those jumpers (shunts) on
the card and move the jumper to the desired setting. (They are
plainly marked.)
