Title: NetBIOS Protocol (NBP) and Maxess 1.3
date: 8/30/89

To run Maxess 1.3 in a 3+Open environment with NetBIOS Protocol (NBP),
use 3+Open version 1.1. 3+Open 1.1 contains NBP rev M, which is the only
NBP version that has been tested and shown to work with Maxess 1.3. (The
actual test platform comprised these parts: a 3+Open 1.1 OS/2 network,
NBP rev M, Maxess 1.3 as the gateway, DOS 3.3 on workstation and gateway,
DOS 4.0 on workstation only, EtherLink II in the gateway, and a 3+1.3.1
workstation boot disk.)

Pre-release version 1.0 of NBP rev I and L are not guaranteed to work
with Maxess 1.3. NBP rev I may cause frequent NetBIOS timeout errors.
Also, when running the TRACE facility on the gateway, there may be gateway
disconnect errors or the gateway may lock up. In NBP rev L, the same
errors occur as in rev I, but not as frequently.

Note: All workstations running Maxess 1.3 are supposed to be DOS, not OS/2,
because you cannot run in the DOS compatibility window. Multitasking
products in general do not work well in the DOS compatiblity window.
