The following are known problems with the 3S/40X and 3+ release 1.3:

o Disk Partition sizes on 3S/200 and 3S/400.
o Fewer number of services can load on a 3S/400 1.3 than 3S/200 1.2.1.
o Only one Mem Exp Bd will be useful with 3+ on 3S/400.
o Open Systems Acct software works on a 3S/200 but not on 3S/400.
                                                       (3/22/88)

Disk Partition sizes on 3S/200 and 3S/400

We have found that non standard Disk Partitioning done by
reformatting the disk drive potentially can result in data
corruption and the loss of File Allocation Tables. We have
verified this and found the problem in CIOSYS. As a result, the
release note states two sets of disk partitioning schemes that we
know are solid. The default configuration that 3S/200 and 3S/400
ship with are just fine. We are testing alternative disk
partition configurations for customers that just have to have
something different, so the following list will grow as this
testing completes. The Ciosys fix that will ultimately resolve
this problem is included with 1.3.1. (Because Ciosys is a core
service it would require a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks of testing.
Right now it makes sense to roll this together with 1.3.1 because
of the overlap in QA.)

The Release note included with 3S/200 and 3S/400 states the following:
Disk Partition Sizes on 3S/200 and 3S/400 Series Servers

               Drive ID 3S/200 3S/400
               C: 20MB 27MB
               D: 32 32
               E: 32 32
               F: 20 32
               G: n/a 32
These are the partition sizes set at the factory

   OR
               Drive ID 3S/200 3S/400
               C: 32MB 32MB
               D: 32 32
               E: 32 32
               F: 8 32
               G: n/a 27
These are the default partition sizes set by 3DISK and
3DISK386 when you reformat the disk.

Fewer number of services can load on a 3S/400 1.3 than 3S/200 1.2.1

We just became aware, as you did, that because 1.3 is larger than
1.2.1 the capability to load as many services has been reduced.
We were not conscious of this, and we did not receive any
feedback about this thru Beta or even in the initial product roll
out.

The maximum configurations with tuning:

o PC Server with 1.2.1
   Share/Name/Locator/Start and Route OR Mail

o 3S/200 with 1.2.1
Share/Name/Locator/BACKUP/Start and BOTH Route and Mail

o 3S/400 with 1.3
Share/Name/Locator/BACKUP/Start and Route OR 5-User Mail

Some recommended workarounds are:

o Offloading Locator to a client
o Running with EtherLinkII and Eth503 (its smaller)
o Using a low cost PC as a Route or Start server
