The 3+Backup/3Server diskette version 1.1.1 (p/n 1723-02) has a
tape unit hardware diagnostic file called TAPETEST.COM. This
same program was also distributed on diskette 1 of the MAY 1,
1987 UPDATE set. This program has a problem with the newer
version of Adaptec tape controller. This tape controller may be
installed in 3Servers purchased after October 1986, and in
virtually all 3Server3s. It is identified as ACB-3530GA.

This controller takes longer to reset and shoeshine the tape
drive, and if you run test q - functional check, it'll fail
after the bus reset. To fix it use 3DEBUG to change byte #085F(hex)
from 5A(hex) to C0(hex). Do NOT attempt the following steps
unless you are familiar with the operation of DEBUG.

  1) Establish a remote console connection to your server.
  2) Insert the diskette containing TAPETEST.COM into drive A:
     of your remote console workstation.
  3) Type c:3debug tapetest.com <cr>.
  4) When 3debug promtsyou with -, type ecs:85f <cr>
  5) When the screen shows ecs:85f5A. type C0 <cr>
  6) Type w <cr>
  7) Type q <cr> to quit 3debug.

Don't forget to write a version change note on the diskette.
