The message "Open Failed" is an error returned from the BACKUP2 menu of
3+Open Backup. The error is generated when 3+Open Backup attempts to access
the tape drive (such as executing a backup, retension, or rewind) and the
TAPE sharename has been improperly pathed to a partition that already exists
on the hard drive of the server. The TAPE sharename must be pathed to the
drive ID after the last physical partition on the server's hard drive.

For example, if the hard drive of the server is partitioned from C: to H:, the
TAPE sharename should point to I:\. If the TAPE sharename is pathed to H:\
on that server, the "Open Failed" error will be returned when the tape drive
is accessed.

The error-producing condition often occurs when an expansion drive is added
to the server, causing the ID of the last physical partition to change. It
also occurs if the TAPE sharename is inadvertently deleted and an improper
path is designated when the sharename is recreated.
