STEP 1 - INSTALL 3+START/SERVER S/W

3+Start supports PC workstations and 3Stations. If you plan to
use Start for 3Stations, you need the latest version of the
software - 3+Start/Server version 1.1.1. (this includes programs
for use with 3Station, such as EMS).

If Start is currently installed, you need to verify that it is
the latest version. If it is not the most current, you must first
deinstall the exisitng service to your old 3+Start/Server
diskette, then install Start from the new 3+Start/Server disk.

If you have an existing server setup and do not have 3+Start
installed, do follow the steps below:

1. Shut down the server's services.

2. Reboot your 3Server in ThumbWheel 4 and establish a
remote console.

3. Run the 3INSTALL program to install 3+Start.

NOTE: You should install Start on ONLY one server per network.

STEP 2 - CREATE A MASTER DISKETTE

1. Use IBM DOS 3.1 or higher to format a blank disk with /s
option. CAUTION: See Compatibility Section for which DOS
to use.

NOTE: Be sure to use a 360 KB disk drive as your target drive.
Diskettes created on a 1.2 MB drive will not work reliably.

2. Put the disk which you just formatted in drive B: and Insert
the 3+Start Installation/Workstation diskette in drive A:

3. At the A prompt, type "install b:" and hit return

   A>install b: [Return]

4. Choose the type of Master diskette to be created from the
Configuration Menu. There are four choices:

.br;i. 3Station Start Master
.br;ii. 3Station Start Master with EPATH
.br;iii.PC Workstation Start Master
.br;iv. PC Workstation Start Master with EPATH

The EPATH driver allows users to access EtherSeries servers.

STEP 3 - CREATE A START VOLUME

1. Log in as the server-user. (server-user is the name you gave
the server on installation). Share your STARTVOL directory as
STARTDIR and give it RWC access.(This directory gets created
when you installed Start service on the server. It contains
all the files needed by Start).

            A>Login SERVER1
            A>3F SHARE STARTDIR=C:\3PLUS\3START\3STARTVOL /RWC

2. Log in as the Administrator and LINK drive F: to STARTDIR on
the Start server.

            A>Login Admin
            A>3F Link \\SERVER1\STARTDIR F:

3. Put the 3Station Start Master diskette you just created in
drive A:

4. At the DOS prompt, use the 3S Create command to create a
    public 3+Start volume.

            F>3S Create ?
              Volume name ? 3STATION [Return]
              Password? [Return]
              Access? pub [Return]
              From? a: [Return]
              To? f: [Return]
Description? Public 3Station Start Volume [Return]

Warning: The DOS software license requires that
you have a version of DOS for each
                        personal computer on your network.
              Continue? (Y/N): y [Return]

              Copying 720 sectors from A: to 3STATION.STR
              ...................................................
              ...................................................

            F>

NOTE: For a 3Station startup, create a volume called 3STATION.
For PC workstation startup, create a volume called START.

START is now ready to use!

DOS COMPATIBILITY

The following versions of DOS work with 3+Start 1.1.1

IBM PC DOS 3.1
IBM PC DOS 3.2
IBM PC DOS 3.3
COMPAQ 3.2
TANDY 3.2.01

The following versions of DOS do NOT work with 3+Start 1.1.1

WYSE 3.1
COMPAQ 3.1
ATT 6300+ 3.2
ZENITH MSDOS 3.1
ITT MSOS 3.1 REV B
HP VECTRA MSDOS 3.1
ERICSSON MSDOS 2.11, 3.1
EPSON EQUITY III MSDOS 3.1
LEADING EDGE MODEL D MSDOS 3.1

Any version of MSDOS that has hidden files named anything other
than IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM will not work with 3+Start. There
are also several version of DOS that have the correct hidden
files but will not work with 3+Start because they do not use the
same type of boot record that IBM does.

3+Start will not work with ATs with hard drives. 90% of ATs
without hard drives use 1984 proms. 3+Start will not work with
ATs that have 1984 proms.

BASIC COMPATIBILTY

The types of BASICs which will work with the 3Station are those
that handle/recognize the EGA. The following are basics that work
with 3Stations:

GW BASIC 3.0 or higher
QUICKBASIC 2.0
WYSE 3.2
ATT 3.2

NOTE: IBM BASICA does NOT work!

PROGRAMS FOR USE WITH THE 3STATION

MONOGRAPH - Allows the user to switch 3Station into a
                 Hercules compatible mono graphics mode.

EMSIM/EMSTAT - Allows use of extended memory as LIM
                 (expanded) memory for LIM compatible
                 applications.

CHKMEM - Informs the user how much memory is
available in regular memory and network
                 memory.

ADVDIAG - A set of advanced diagnostics which can
be downloaded from the server and run to
                 investigate technical problems. This set
is more complete and thorough than the ROM
resident diagnostics which are built into
                 3Station.

NOTE: - Some programs such as Multimate 3.5/3.6 and
Mouse systems do not work with expanded
keyboard buffers. To disable the 3Station's
expanded keyboard buffer, add /K to the first
line of your config.sys file. It should look
                 like the following:

                             device=3Station.sys /K

SETUP & - The 3Station has a SETUP & DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM.
DIAGNOSTIC To enter this mode, you need to HIT [CTRL-ALT-
PROGRAM LEFT SHIFT-DELETE]. At this point, a Setup
Menu will appear. Choose item #1 to Select a
Display Type. The options are: Enhanced Color,
                 Color, and Monochrome.

PROCEDURE FOR CREATING 3STATION START VOLUMES ON ETHERSERIES NETWORKS

To use a 3Station on an EtherSeries only network,
the proper combination of MINDS and 3Station drivers
must be in the Start Volume. A 3Station/EtherSeries
diskette is available from Customer Support. Or
follow the steps below.

1. Use 3+Start release 1.1.1 and IBM PC DOS 3.1

2. Create a 3Station Start Master as explained above.

3. Copy the files BOOTPC.COM and BOOTSTAT.COM from
the 3+ subdirectory on the 3+Start/Server
diskette to the EtherShr subdirectory on the
EtherSeries server.

4. Use the "ES CREATE" command to create an
EtherSeries Start Volume from the 3Station Start
Master created in step 2. For this procedure,
please refer to your EtherSeries Start documentation.
