I recently upgraded a large corporate client (PPG Industries)
from Etherseries 2.4 to 3Plus 1.2.1 on their 3Servers, including
backup. The transition went smoothly.

About a month after conversion, they pulled an Etherseries backup
tape out of their vault that they had archived data. They want me
to restore it for them. How to do this?

ANSWER:

The procedure for transferring ES files (from volumes) to 3+ files is to
install ES onto a server and restore the backup, then connect the server
to a 3+ network. Create a 3+ workstation boot disk and choose the
option for '3+ Workstation with Epath'; this loads the epath.sys driver
in Runminds and will allow you to access an ES server on the 3+ network.
You can login and link to 3+ sharenames, then do an ES Login and ES Link
to access the ES volume(s). Then just copy FROM the drive linked to ES
TO the drive linked to 3+.

This procedure is very easy to perform. The only other alternative for
transferring data from ES to 3+ is to install ES to the server, restore
the backup, link to the ES volumes and copy the files to a local hard or
floppy disk. Depending on the amount of data to transfer and the size
of the files, this may be an easier way to move files.

A final alternative, if the customer has an extra server to keep on-
line, they can install ES and restore the backup, and leave the ES
server on the network. It can be accessed as in the first description
above by loading the Epath.sys driver in Runminds.
