.br;Subj: FYI: 1.1 UPGRADE GUIDELINES
.br;-----------------------------------------------------------------
.br;Here are a few recommended procedures and safety precautions for
the 1.1 upgrade.

1. Unshare the printer(s) in 1.0 and re-shared them after
the upgrade. You are forced to re-configure the printers and
this could cause the dreaded "3Share Failure!". Which if you
can't remember the right configuration, deleting the shrlist may
be your only out. It's fast, easy and safer to unshare in 1.0.

2. When installing the name service use the old network
number, from the 1.0 diskette. A very common mistake which
results in several types of errors; " no name svr", "transmission
error", "no route".

3. A server hanging on "Loading 3svrgo" can usually be
corrected by increasing the number of processes on the pro.sys
line in the config.sys. We sometimes recommended changing the
time slicing parameters on the pro.sys in 1.0 to increase the
parallel printer speed; example "pro.sys 32 1 4". For 1.1 the
time parms MUST be "0 0 " for the serial ports to work correctly.

4. If upgrading using 1.0 software which has never been
installed, File and Print must be installed first. (This may be
the case when a dealer is clearing out his old stock of 1.0,
which also gives the end user a cost savings.) If the upgrade is
started before the 1.0 is installed it will not create any real
problems, like trashing the address location on the 1.0, it will
just not let you upgrade. Get out of 3install(esc); run
sinstall; return to 3install and complete the upgrade.

5. A server must be all 1.0 or all 1.1. It's OK to have
1.0 and 1.1 servers on the same net, if you do it's best to use a
1.1 name server.
