QUESTION: What are the causes of an Interrupt 6 in the LCD of a
3Server or 3Server3?

ANSWER: The most common cause of the "Interrupt - 6" message on
the LCD during the boot of a 3Com server results from initiating,
then interrupting and terminating, a tape backup restore
operation before it completes of its own accord.

A change to Backup fixing this problem was implemented in Backup
1.2. We strongly recommend Backup 1.2 or later as several
important improvements were made. Users with an earlier revision
of Backup should be careful to avoid interrupting a restore
operation before its normal completion.

The usual scenario is a user who intended to type "restore ?" but
typed only "restore", which initiates a full restore. Realizing
the mistake, the user cancels the restore. 3bio.com is damaged
(unknown to the user), and the next time the server is booted,
the Int 6 message appears in the LCD.

Aborting the restore causes the active restoring file on the hard
disk to be left truncated to zero length and with none of its
data restored. If the restore is a full restore and is terminated
immediately, the file that gets damaged is 3bio.com.
