Why does the hard disk on my server seem to be getting slower over
time?

A. It's called file fragmentation. Pieces of your files are
slowly getting spread across the sectors of your server's hard
disk. This is caused from users of your network adding and
deleting files and is completely normal. The best way to un-
fragment your server is to back the entire server up onto tape,
reformat the server, and perform a restore.

HOWEVER, BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT ATTEMPTING A REFORMAT. It is
extremely important to assure that you have a good RESTORABLE
backup tape. Additionally, due to enhancements in later versions
of 3+Backup, we strongly recommend using version 1.2.1 or higher.
