Title: File Creation in a Root Level Directory and 3+ for Macintosh

Note: The following information applies to 3+ for Macintosh 1.6 and prior
versions.

When creating a file in a server's root directory, 3MacFs may fail and cause
all 3+Share server sessions to be terminated. You will see many "Network
Retrying..." messages, followed by Net804 and Net805 errors. If you reboot
your workstation you will see "Share Server Not Responding." If you reboot
the server, things may seem normal again until you link to the server's
shared root directory and try to create a subdirectory on the logical drive.

This scenario occurs if you have 3+ for Macintosh File System installed on
the server (MacFS), because a file cannot be created from a root-level
directory on the server.

To solve the problem, 3Com recommends that you make the root directory of
your server read-only. This is the most secure solution. However, if you
must have read, write, and create access rights to a shared root level
directory, then install the new 3MACFS.EXE in the 3Plus directory of your
file server.

3MACFS.EXE is contained in the file MACFS.ZIP, in the Ask3Com Forum, Patches
and Fixes Library.
