0. Before we begin...

Many of the URLs given in this document indicate files available for
downloading from the Terry Pratchett Archives at ftp.lspace.org. If you
are not familiar with the Archives (or the British, American and
Australian mirror sites), read the alt.fan.pratchett mini-FAQ.

Where appropriate, I'm giving URLs to both the FTP and the WWW versions
    of the resources mentioned.

You will probably be doing yourself a favour if you read the a.f.p.
mini-FAQ, the Terry Pratchett FAQ and the Terry Pratchett Bibliography
as companion documents to this FAQ.

The most recent copy of this FAQ is always available from the Pratchett
Archives, or (together with many, many other FAQs) from the
news.answers anonymous ftp site rtfm.mit.edu. If you can't do or don't
know about ftp, just send an e-mail message to mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu

1. Where and how do I buy Terry Pratchett novels?
--------------------------------------------------

In the UK and in most of Western Europe, Terry Pratchett's entire
oeuvre is readily available from the bookshops. Even if it isn't,
ordering is generally not a problem.

However, Terry's novels (especially the recently released ones, and the
ever elusive "Eric") are not so easily available in the USA, thanks to
braindead publishers, and bookshops that apparently do not consider it
part of their job to order books for their customers.

For a list of titles and ISBN numbers of all Terry's novels (including
info on the places his short stories have appeared), read the
    Bibliography:

    ftp://ftp.lspace.org/pub/pratchett/faqs/bibliography
    http://www-au.lspace.org/~orin/pratchett/bib.txt

With the advent of the World Wide Web, several on-line bookstores have
become available. Here are three that look like winners in the Terry
    Pratchett department to me.

    o The Future Fantasy Bookstore.

        http://www.commerce.digital.com/palo-alto/FutureFantasy/home.html

USA-based. Carries almost all of the UK editions of Terry's books,
including the "Interesting Times" hardcover ($34) and the "Eric"
paperback ($9). You can order on-line, credit cards are accepted,
and they offer various types of worldwide shipping. Very nice,
        solid WWW Interface, too.

        Address: 3705 El Camino Real
                    Palo Alto, CA 94306
                    USA
        Tel: +1 415 855 9771
        Fax: +1 415 855 9963
        E-mail: futfan@netcom.com

    o The Internet Bookshop.

        http://www.bookshop.co.uk/

UK-based. Carries even more of Terry's UK books. Hardcovers are 15
pounds, paperbacks are 5 pounds. They even have the A4-sized,
Josh-Kirby illustrated versions of "Eric". On-line ordering, credit
cards, worldwide shipping, orders by fax -- it's all there, except,
as far as I can determine, the possibility of e-mail or snail mail
ordering. Also, their WWW Interface is mucho lousy. But their
        collection is immense.

        Fax: +44 (0)186 578 4783

    o The Virtual Bookshop.

        http://www.virtual.bookshop.com/

The hardcover versions of the Discworld books are still regularly
reprinted and should not be too difficult to get hold of. The first
edition hardcovers, however, are becoming quite rare and valuable.
If you are interested in such collectible items, you should try
these folks. The last time I looked they had a number of rare
Pratchett books available, including for instance the original 1972
edition of "The Carpet People", and an uncorrected proofing version
        of "Wyrd Sisters".

        E-Mail: Steve Armstrong (admin@bookshop.com)

    o Other bookstores.

Outside of the three bookstores mentioned above, there are of a
course a host of other shops both online and off-line who will sell
Pratchett books to you and ship them all around the world as long
as you pay. I see little sense in trying to extensively enumerate
this category of stores, but a few of the ones that readers of
alt.fan.pratchett seem to have particularly good experiences with
        are:

        -- Interstellar Master Traders
            33 North Road

(Note: ppint also carries all the audio cassettes and hardcover
            versions)

2. Where and how do I buy Clarecraft Discworld figurines?

For years Clarecraft Design has been producing handmade Discworld
figurines. They tend to be quite expensive, but also immensely popular
with the people who buy them. Terry himself is a major customer, and
had this to say about them: "I like the Clarecraft figures. They're
made by people who read the books very carefully and then sculpt what
they see on the inside of their eyelids. They don't always get it
exactly right (no-one could), but they get it wrong a lot better than
    anyone else would."

The Clarecraft WWW pages feature an on-line catalog and high-quality
    pictures of all their figurines.

    http://artificer.lspace.org/cbuckley/clarecraft/

These pages are only semi-official. For authoritative info
(particularly regarding things like prices and shipping costs), you may
find it advisable to contact Clarecraft directly.

3. Where and how do I buy Discworld clothing and jewelry?

Stephen "Cut-Me-Own-Throat" Briggs, aka CMOT Briggs, known for his
Discworld stage adaptions and his co-authorship with Terry of the
"Discworld Companion" and the "The Streets of Ankh-Morpork" has also
been responsible for supplying the alt.fan.pratchett readership with
certain items of very popular Discworld/a.f.p. merchandise -- if
somebody on the newsgroup mentions t-shirts, these are the ones they
    probably mean.

Here's the relevant info about the currently available items:

    o "The Turtle Moves" T-shirt.

The design, by Stephen ("The Streets of Ankh-Morpork") Player, is
in full colour on a black t-shirt (L & XL only). It depicts the
Great A'Tuin, elephants and Discworld, swimming out of the picture
towards the viewer. Over the design a banner -- "The Turtle Moves".

        Price: 10.50 pounds sterling, plus P&P (#1.00-UK, #1.50-Europe,
        #2.00-USA/Canada, #2.50-NZ/Japan/Oz)

    o The a.f.p. T-shirt (now in a low-volume reprint).

The design, by Graham ("Mort the Big Comic") Higgins, is in black
on a white t-shirt (L & XL only). On the front is the Librarian at
a computer keyboard of 'Oooks', holding a banana sandwich and with
a copy of the missing chapter under his arm. Under him, the legend:
"alt.fan.pratchett". On the back, Death at a computer, thinking:
HOW DO YOU TURN OFF 'CAPS LOCK'?

Price: 11.50 pounds, plus P&P as for the 'turtle' T-shirt.

o The "Dark in Here" T-shirt.

A black T-shirt (L or XL) with a colour design by Stephen
Briggs. The design is Death's head, illuminated by the light from a
match held in his left hand. Under the pic is the text: DARK IN
        HERE, ISN'T IT?

Price: 10.50 pounds, plus P&P as for the 'turtle' T-shirt.

    o Unseen University Scarves.

The scarf is a 72"x10", all-wool scarf, with longitudinal stripes
        as follows: (broad)Crimson / (narrow)yellow-purple-yellow /
        (broad)Navy / (narrow)yellow-purple-yellow / (broad)Crimson. At one
end is embroidered the Unseen University crest in colour.

        Price: 19.90 pounds, plus P&P (#2.00-UK, #3.00-Europe, #5.00-Rest
        of World).

    o Discworld Ties

These are embroidered silk ties. Midnight blue, patterned with
stars. Below the knot a representation of the Great A'Tuin &
Discworld is embroidered. At the foot of the tie, along the line of
one of the points, is embroidered: THE TURTLE MOVES...

        Price: 16.50 pounds, plus P&P (50p-UK, #1-EC, #1.50-USA, #2-NZ/Oz).

o The Ankh-Morpork and Luggage Badges

The Ankh-Morpork badge is 14 mm x 14 mm and crafted in gilt metal.
The design is the logo of Ankh-Morpork - the morpork owl holding an
ankh. Similar in size and fastening to the Ankh-Morpork badge is
the Lugagge Badge, also in gilt metal, with the body of the chest
picked out in brown and yellow enamel.

The Ankh-Morpork badge is 2.75 pounds, the Luggage badge is 3.50
pounds. P&P for either of them is 40p for the UK, 75p for Europe,
1.20 pounds for USA/Canada and 1 pound 50p for the rest of world).

Europe, 1.50 pounds USA/Canada, 1.75 pounds for the rest of the world.

For all items, sterling cheques are preferred, payable to S. P. Briggs
(although folding sterling bills are acceptable), and snail mailed to:

Clarecraft are also selling some Discworld-related items that are very
popular among the a.f.p. members. This is their info:

    o Soul Music T-shirt.

This is a T-shirt with "Death on Wheels" on the front and "Born to
Rune" on the back. The T-shirt is made of thick black cotton and
the illustration is a photographic reproduction of the Clarecraft
Death on Wheels model. There is also a Sweatshirt with the same
        design available.

Both items come in medium, large and Xtra large. The T-shirt costs
14 pounds 95 pence, the Sweatshirt 24 pounds 95 pence. These prices
include UK P&P -- other countries please
        write before ordering.

   o The Holy Anorakh.

This is a model of an ankh wearing an anorak [it's an a.f.p.
in-joke, in case you're wondering. One of these days that story
will find its way into the FAQs, I promise].

Size is 1.5 x 1.5 cm, and it is available in pewter (2.20 for the
UK, 2.35 for Europe and 2.75 pounds for the rest of the world) and
silver (8.50 anywhere in the world).

   o Death Ring

This is hallmarked sterling silver ring, featuring Death's head and
scythe. It is available in sizes K to Z and costs 19.00 pounds

4. Where and how do I buy CD's, CD-ROM games, and audio/video tapes?

Here are some other 'multimedia' items that are directly related to the
    Discworld/Pratchett universe:

o The "From The Discworld" CD by Dave Greenslade.

I know of two places on the Internet that carry this CD.

-- The first source is an American-based outfit called "Compact
            Disc Europe".

            telnet://cdeurope.com/

Note that this is a telnet link, so even if you don't have a
Web browser you might still be able to reach them (if you can
            do telnet, of course).

The CD is quite expensive: $30 without shipping.

            Address: Compact Disc Europe
                        PO Box 8561
                        Deerfield Beach FL 33443
                        USA
            Orderline: +1 305 481 8984
            Customer service: +1 305 481 1724
            Fax: +1 305 481 8817
            Modem: +1 408 730 8138

-- The second source for the Discworld CD is the UK-based mail
order company PastelBlue. They can be reached on the Web as:

            http://www.demon.co.uk/pastel

They only accept orders through e-mail, but you can pay by
Credit Card, Eurocheque, International Money Order, etc., and
they have the CD for 14 pounds, which comes to about $21. And
            that's with shipping included.

            E-mail: orders@pastel.demon.co.uk

o The "Discworld" CD-ROM game by Psygnosis.

Available for both MS-DOS and Macintosh computers. The MS-DOS
version is available on-line for $40 from CDROMs Online (not
including shipping), but most major mail-order houses and normal
computer stores should have it as well.

        telnet://cdromsonline.com

For more information on this game consult the game FAQ:

        ftp://ftp.lspace.org/pub/pratchett/faqs/discworld-game-faq
        http://www.lspace.org/games/discworld/page.htm

    o The Discworld audio tapes.

I know that Corgi audio has released audio cassette versions of the
first eight or so Discworld books, narrated by Tony "Baldrick"
        Robinson.

Presumeably most of the mail-order bookstores will be able to order
them for you just as easily as the books themselves, but if anybody
can give me a specific address, or better yet, an online URL for
these items I would be most grateful.

Separate audio readings of the first three Discworld novels are
also available from Isis Publishing. These are narrated by
Nigel "Neil from the Young Ones" Planer, and my sources are very
        enthousiastic about them.

        Address: Isis Audio Books
                    Isis Publishing Ltd
                    7 Centremead

                    Oxford OX2 0ES
                    UK

    o The Truckers Video

In 19?? Thames Television International commisioned an acclaimed
animated version of "Truckers" (part one of the Nome trilogy). It
was made and produced by Cosgrove-Hall, a relatively small specialist
        producer of animation.

The video for this television series is commercially available, in
a 110-minute long VHS-PAL format (Id: VHS TV 8159), for about 8 UK
pounds. There also was a "Book of the Series", but it has been long
        out of print.

        Address: VCI distrubution Ltd
                    36 Caxton Way

                    UK

5. Where and how do I buy other Discworld items?

    o Badges, keyrings, door plaques.

These are plastic laminated items featuring phrases and sayings
borrowed from or inspired by the Discworld. If you send these guys
an SAE they'll send you a catalogue.

        Address: P & J Von Der Fecht

                    Cheshire WA6 0PH
                    UK

    o Jigsaw puzzles.

In 1995 jigsaw puzzles became available, featuring Josh Kirby
Discworld drawings. I have no other information about them at
this point. If you do, please mail me.

    o.Unseen University Degree Certificate.

.Stephen Briggs (see section 3) also gives you the opportunity to
.earn a Unseen University Degree. You have to complete a Discworld
.test, send him 6 pounds, and if you pass the test you'll get a
.degree certificate on parchment (signed by Ridcully) as well as
.an octogonal metal pin UU Alumnus Badge, featuring the UU book-and-
.pointy-hat logo modelled in relief. For more information, please

6. Where and how do I join commercial fan activity?

There are two ongoing UK-based fan efforts pertaining to Terry
    Pratchett and his works.

o The Fan Club -- "The Guild of Fans and Disciples"

An unofficial fan club of Terry Pratchett and Josh Kirby, run on a
non profit-making basis by a group of fans who produce a bi-monthly

8. FAQ Maintainer's disclaimer.

I am not responsible or otherwise accountable for any problems you may
encounter with any of the service providers mentioned in this FAQ.
Although I'm fairly sure they're all nice people, for all I know they
*may* turn out to be incompetents, crooks, cut-throats, robbers, and
axe-murderers whose only goal in life is to separate you from your
money. Please don't blame me if Things Go Wrong. Thanks.
