FBI APPROVES ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINT CARDS FROM DIGITAL BIOMETRICS

MINNETONKA, MN (MARCH 8) PR NEWSWIRE - Digital Biometrics, Inc. (NASDAQ: DBII),
a Minnetonka, Minn., based manufacturer of inkless electronic fingerprint
systems, today announced that fingerprint cards produced by the company's
TENPRINTER(R) live scan systems have been accepted by the FBI. The TENPRINTER
provides an inkless method of capturing a subject's fingerprints utilizing
computer and electro- optical technologies.

"Acceptance by the FBI is an important milestone in automating the
identification process in both criminal and civil applications," said Jack A.
Klingert, president and chief executive officer of Digital Biometrics. "The
1980's saw the implementation of many fingerprint database systems (AFIS)
throughout the country. The AFIS systems have performed very well and a great
many criminals are behind bars who otherwise would have escaped the long arm of
the law," he said.

Klingert continued, "In the 1990's live scan fingerprinting will further
improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to quickly identify and
apprehend criminals. The TENPRINTER greatly improves the quality of
fingerprints entered into the AFIS data bases. The ability of the TENPRINTER
to rapidly transmit fingerprints over ordinary telephone lines to other
locations permits identifications to be completed in minutes or hours, rather
than days or weeks." According to the FBI, "... the use of live scan
technology will be a major contribution to the law enforcement community, and
will pave the way for a future paperless identification process."

The process leading to the FBI's approval was extremely thorough. Teams of
forensic scientists and engineers from the FBI, NIST (National Institute of
Standards and Technology) and Underwriters Laboratories performed an extensive
and unprecedented analysis of DBI's TENPRINTER before accepting this new
technology. "It is very gratifying to be the first and to date, the only
company to receive full FBI approval," Klingert stated. Only two other
companies, Fingermatrix Inc. (NASDAQ: FINX) and Identix Inc. (NASDAQ: IDXX),
are developing technologies for this market and neither has as yet obtained
full FBI approval. "Many law enforcement agencies have been waiting for the
FBI to accept this new technology before issuing purchase orders. With this
important landmark behind us, we have the strongest position in the market.
With the FBI on record as accepting fingerprint cards produced by TENPRINTER,
we believe our market should develop rapidly," Klingert said.
