- Rules and info file v0.1 :-)

Introduction

ProgNet was started for people who want help and information
with the amazing topic: Programming. Started October 1994 by
Martin Alexanderson, Sweden, and Ask Bjrn Hansen, Denmark. The
first who connected was Stein-Ivar Johnsen, Norway. Already with
three nodes in three different countries we think that ProgNet
quickly will grow to the rest of Europe and soon to USA, Canada,
Southamerica and Asia.. Ambitious, ehh? ;-)

Becoming a Node in ProgNet

Send the application form to the nearest host, and he'll find a
ProgNet feed for you. Please mention it in the application form
if you already have found a link, or if you have a specific wish..
You don't need to know anything about programming, you should
just be a bit interested, or have enough points begging for it. ;-)

Becoming a Point

Ask a node in ProgNet if you can become ProgNet point at his system.
He should then put you in his pointlist, and send the updated point-
list to his host. Points don't need to have any knowledge about
programming, anybody who are interested are welcome.

Becoming a Region Host/Host/Hub

If there is no Region Host in your country (state) (as in if you are the
first one who connects :) you can choose between being a 'independent'
node, or being Region Host in your country. All Region Host's have
to poll 233:233/0 or 233:46/0.
If there is no host in your area, the Region Host can ask you to be
host for this area. The RC's decide (with help from other nodes in the
region of course) how many net's every region should be divided into.
If a host feel it's necessary, he can ask a node to be a Hub.
All Hosts and Hubs must have some experience with (Fidorelated) message-
handling, and should know a bit programming..

The Pointlist

In ProgNet we use a version 7 Pointlist. Nodes should send updates about
their point's to the NC, the NC's should send netsegments to their RC and
RC should send the Regionsegments to ZC who assemble the point/nodelist.

Rules

1. We haven't any real rules yet, so please behave..!

2. Don't be easily annoyed, and don't annoy others. If you do so
you'll not find yourself in the next ProgNet nodelist. We don't
want to be a useless Fight-O-Net<tm> network.

3. ProgNet is only for Programming, so other discussions are off-
topic. We can make a CHAT.PRG if it's wanted?

4. You are not allowed to make autopostings of your newfiles in
the ANNOUNCE.PRG area. It's not really cool to see that some
board in northern Africa also has received the latest nodelist,
signed with some big signature with all the networks sysop
are member of.. There will always be some of these crap-postings
if the systems make'm by automatic, so we don't want them to..
But remember, if you have a interesting new file, please announce
it! The only thing which may be auto-announced, are the files
hatched in the ProgNet fileecho's, and the must only be announced
be one person, selected by the NetCoordinator(s).

5. Please don't set your Allfix or similar to response on mails in
the filesearch are. It's a manual requests/responses only area!
{ Maybe we can make another area to AllFix searches, but all
   responses should be in netmail then. }
