[ - How to make your own mean-streak marker -]
    - -- --- --------------------------------------------------- --- -- -
Basically what one does is create a marker out of some sanitary canister.
Ususally I would use some deodorant container. But I also remember hearing that
Zorro and Fico used to make them out of VHS tapes.

**NOTE** As is customary with historical and technical graffiti information
please pass on the history of these markers. At least a Chicago version of the
history per myself. I do remember these kinds of markers being hush hush. It
was normal for Chicago writers to be suspicious of other writers and keep their
techniques etc. hidden from others. I guess I still have a bit of that in me,
but only because some of this stuff took hard work to figure out, and I believe
us Old School writers are bitter because New Schoolers learn techniques instead
of originating them (or at least believing to) I also believe we're bitter
because it took us years to learn how to paint and it takes newer writers less
time, (and they usually surpass the older writers with their presentation of
the pieces, although this is not always the case.) I apoligize for veering off
on that tangent. I guess one day I'll write a book. (hopefully)

*BTW*. I believe Fear first created this marker.

Anyway after taking a used deodorant bottle, for example, probably one of those
speed sticks because of the width, get some duct tape (make sure it's duct
tape. Other tapes won't work) and tape the bottom of the canister. Make sure
that there are no holes for liquid to escape. Oh, I forgot, take out the spiral
stick in the middle first. You should be able to break it off at the bottom, or
take it out and cut it off. After duct taping the bottom, duct tape the sides
if need be. If you believe that ink may escape, then tape it up good. Remember
though don't tape it up all the way to the top, because the adjusted cap still
needs to be fitted back on.

Next, take an old sock, fold it up like you would an envelope, in three places,
long-ways, and stick it inside the canister. Make sure it's tight and that
there are no openings on the sides. Also, stuff it in there really good, if
it's too loose, that shit's going to leak and come out on you when you really
need it. Then cut your cap or create another one with cardboard, that's what I
had to do, anyway if you cut it just spread it and duct tape it so that it's
able to cover the whole top. After this is done and you have a marker whose cap
fits, and you are satisfied with it, time to add the ink.

What I recomend always, especially for bombers, oh, by bombers, because we may
have a language difference, I mean those writers who tag extensively and target
mostly the transit system. That's probably what this marker is going to be best
suited for.

I suggest that you use shoe dye as ink. Take the bottle of dye and remove the
top with the applier. I suggest that you press the applier on the insides of
the top of the bottle to drain it of excess dye. Then take the marker and place
the sock part on the open part of the bottle. Quickly turn it upside down to
let the dye get soaked up by the sock. Make sure that before you turn it over,
the sock is completely covering the bottle, (and that it's stuffed good!) if
not, it's going to drip all over you. You'll probably know when to stop and
turn them over again. If not, you'll get the hang of it.

I'm sure that you'll soon out-do me and many other writers with innovations on
this technique, if you don't already have it now.

The only marker I still have like this I made out of a speed stick, but I cut
it long-ways so that the tip would be almost six inches. Be warned, they leak
once in a while, they dry up quickly, and they waste much ink, but if you're
bombing outsides, you'll be proud of the giant tags you'll get.

That which sparkles on the inside to light up one's own soul needs to emerge to
illuminate the souls of others.

Keep the faith.
