Not necessarily, in the East End there are a lot of fruit shops open
all night or open very very early in the morning (Green Lanes' fruit
shops are open 24 hours for example)... And then the papers arrived,
announcing the "impact" to happen at 9:23 (there's a lot of mysticism
about the number 23 incidentally). The shop owner closes up at 9,
hoping that he will be safe.
In fact, the blast will obliterate the whole of London. The only ones
happy are the ravers listening to their music and having a hug and a
kiss. They are none the wiser about the impact as they've been raving
at a squat party all weekend and the panic they see when they come out
they misinterpret as people partying.
Therefore, whilst having a negative image, there is a postitive image
as well. Their dying moments have been beautiful ones, ones where they
have entered a new world where the panic is nonexistant. The
"straight" people have lived their last moments in absolute fear.
