Simple. There are enough people out there who, when they spot a mistake,
correct the Wiki.
There isn't too much intentional misinformation. Occasionally pages do get
"vandalised", particularly pages that are sensitive and people have wildly
opposing views... eg pages on the Arab-Israeli conflict, or on scientology.
But ordinary pages about non-controversial subjects, people will correct it
if they see a mistake. It's quite rare that someone will then change it
again to an incorrect version.
When there is a lot of dispute and changing and unchanging, then a
"discussion" tab gets opened. Here's the one for Scientology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Scientology
Sometimes the discussion gets more complex than the topic. See this one on
Menage a Trois

My point is that wikipedia self-corrects itself thanks to netizens like you
and me. So unless it's a brand new page, you can be fairly sure that most
of what is on Wikipedia is correct.
