Anyone using the PCDJ system is IMO asking for trouble as I see as nothing
more than the toy which it currently is.
From my experience the Traktor system is the current best of breed MP3 wise,
from the reliability perspective it creates a cut down linux installation on
the PC which from you can then boot which is obviously far more stable than
the windows environment but the big draw is that it uses the interface you
already know via it's timecoded vinyl (or CD's) and your existing mixer so
you just leave the same timecode vinyl (or timecode CD) loaded and then
manuipulate all your MP3s the same way you always have with the added
advantage that you can still use vinyl whenever you like.
As you point out the hardware is more specialised and many Dj's arent tech'y
enough with computers to spec it correctly for the 'sweaty arches'
environment it will likely end up in so that's the only issue you need to be
especially aware of.
I'm currently converting my vinyl and CD's to MP3 which has the added
benefit that my precious originals can now stay locked up ready for use (not
MP3ing live just yet) while at the same time being fully accessible, even
the wife has full access without messing with my collection - a real bonus!
