Sadly going down the toilet. Having attended since the days of olympia I
have to say what a piss poor effort it has become.
The days of the great impressive lightshows from Clay Paky, NJD, Martin &
Abstract have gone.
Here are my PLASA awards:
Most Stupid Entry System
€12 for a piece of paper - move to that desk to fill it in, then to that one
for a badge, then to that one for a wallet and entry. Thank god I had a
badge.
Most mad concept - Having to pay to view gear that people want to sell.
Ummmm
Worst Event of the day
Carl 'bore the fuck out of us all' tuff-enough Brown - for managing to play
nearly every choon ever made with his name in it (nearly got the golden
goose egg thrown at him - wanka)
Abstract Award of Build Quality
101 things to do with an old fire exit sign and some small lamps
Denon + Pioneer & Technics joint stupidity award for assuming all club
owners and DJ's want cd decks that can be scrathed with
Native Instruments for simular stupidity but replace CD with PC
Emission for there complete screw up attempt to market PCDJ in the UK.
Displaying the wonderful PCDJ FX with karaoke plugin and unable to
demonstrate it working on 2 screen - That wins the Kermit The Frog aware of
stand planning.
The how much money have you got award going to all stand holders for staring
at every badge to see how much money it was worth.
Still on the plus side - many less sad mobile DJ's wearing crap made Tee
Shirts & jackets bearing things like 'Moonlight Disco DJ Pastit" - a light
relief. And not too many muppets lining up to have a go on the Gemini DJ
stand for that prestigious 5 minute slot playing to the 'nobody cares'
crowd.
All in all - going downhill
Look out for Plasa 2004 - with even less effort from the exhibitors, more
products nobody wants and can afford, Sausage rolls at only €4 and a
reshuffle of the entry stupidity to include no less than 5 stops to get in.
Errr - so basically I was not as delighted with it as you............
