Hi Karl,
They were truly majestic. They opened up with about 10 minutes (all
stated times are very approximate due to temporal awareness distortions
experienced on the night!) of primal riffing that suddenly segued into
music of almost indescribable delicacy and beauty. For the next half
hour or so they covered every possible form of psychedelic tomfoolery,
including a touching acapella chant in which they described how much
they hate Tokyo and Manchester United (call me cynical but I think the
latter was a crowd pleasing stunt!). Then they played "Pink Lady
Lemonade". For an hour. There was one point where Kawabata kicked in
with a gorgeous fuzzy guitar break that had me in tears it was so
intense and beautiful. I can't find enough words to adequately describe
just how good they were, but go and see them next time, whatever you do.
