'm' is the SI abbreviation for metres. 'M' is the SI abbreviation for mega
(as in MB). AOD is the recognised abbreviation for Above Ordnance Datum. The
latter is not case sensitive, but the former is. So maod would be valid in
this contect, but MAOD would mean something else entirely. mAOD, thoughm is
both precise and easily understood.
