I was shown how to do this by a Portuguese friend when I was at
University in Liverpool in the 60s. The stove was a Baby Belling so I
became quite adept at one pot meals where possible but rice done
separately sometimes was needed. The first thing was to get some good
quality long grain rice. I can't now remember the ratios but
something like double the water, so half a cup of rice in the pan and
slowly add a cup of water. GENTLY bring to the boil then lid on and
simmer. do not take the lid off. Don't remember the time. As JNugent
said, pefection, no clumps, no sticky pan to struggle to wash up.
An Asian person I know is more than happy with the George (ASDA) rice
cooker.
