An elderly neighbour was wont, in my childhood, to use the term with no pro- or anti-Jewish significance whatsoever. Any cute baby was "Oh, what a pretty jewboy!", with the same sort of meaning as "little angel" or "cherub". I don't know how common that usage was, but I'm tolerably sure that she would have been horrified to be told "You can't say that!", as if she had used a swear-word. [She would have known about the Holocaust, but would simply not have associated "jewboy" with Jewishness.] -- Andy Walker, Nottingham.
