The question was actually rhetorical, and meant for Veranda.

Yes, and in every other country, we call that Patriotism!
Why do we call it Zionism in Israel?
Israel might be a Jewish State, Canada might be a Christian State.
But both have democracy (representative), and both have a seperation of
Church and State.
Yet both have their own religious fringes.

We know the Strategic Defence of the nation is the only reason Israel
occupies the lands.
We know it ain't for the Oil - there isn't any - nor the gold - there isn't
any, nor the lush green meadows - there isn't any.

Well that is assuming the government can actually control terrorism.
Think of how well our own governments deal with organized crime - say the
drug cartels.
That may be an unfair situation to put Palestinain authorities, and expect a
better success rate than we have against organized crime.
After all killing civillians is organized crime. It is not the behavior of a
nation, which Palestinians are thought to want for themselves.
And Israel has to understand that no Palestinian Authority can be totally
effective in that regard. But they can make a real, serious and committed
effort in to stopping it and creating an atmosphere where people are focused
on building their futures, rather than walking backwards to have revenge for
a serious consequence that their terrorist acts brought upon them.
Where in the world can you just kill innocent people in the street and not
be considered a crime?
You can kill soldiers, you can marshal a population, but you cannot kill
civillians.
Look what America did when Terrorists killed civillians. They destroyed two
countries, on that their generals complained about a lack of targets - it
was so impovershed and backwards.
That actually is the appropriate response to terrorism. However sending the
military to utterly destroy every thing that moves is also a legitimate
response. And look how controlled and held back Israel has been over the
years. Say compared to the - shoot first, find weapons of mass destruction
later - good old USA?
Damned right they have to stop killing civillians. And the giving of lands,
which compromises security is a concession that should cease the violence,
as their concession to peace. Because to take the lands and continue attacks
is a clear statement that peae is not the desire of Palestinians - therefore
they should get what they want - does that not make sense. If their position
is - no we are going to keep killing you until you are all dead of leave -
then Israel is perfectly justified in permanently eliminating the threat to
their security.
So is it peace or war?
There is no peace - and no real war. This situation has gone on a long time,
but it can't go on forever. It's too costly on both sides.
