No, representative government does not, cannot and will never represent
everyone in the whole country.
Often it does not even represent the majority, and often the majority does
not even participate in their democratic right to vote away their right to
democracy. But until we figure out a workable way to bestow true democracy
on the people, we have to use the systems we have, and yes they can be
manipulated by interests with power.
Unilateral withdraw of any lands is a gesture of peace. It says we are
serious, here is a gesture to peace, to move to the process.
Things will never go back to the past. The future is here to day - deal with
it. This is a huge movement on the part of Isreal. For decades they have
flattly said, "No Land without Peace". Now they are giving up land
unilaterally. No they are not giving up the most strategic lands, nor are
they ever likely to give them all up. Well not while anybody that is alive
today is alive. Perhaps after peae has been long standing strategic lands
may be returned to a peaceful Palestine. But not today.
It is significant, because it is unconditional and unilateral. It says, we
are sincere about building peace and prosperity in the region.
It is a gesture to say, were are serious, come to the table and discuss
peace. Perhaps you will show a gesture by unilaterally imposing a ceasefire,
or something that actually moves a resolution to this ongoing conflict
forward. Of course it is not enough.
It is not intended to be enough. It is just going ahead an making a
consession.
Or perhaps you'd prefer a move in the other direction? Do you secretly pine
for Israel to send in its jets. I mean certainly you don't support
perpetuation of the impasses to the ceasation of hostilities and a lasting
peace? There are only 3 positions.
For the status quo, resolution or escallation? This one act does not resolve
anything, but it moves toards resolution, a block in the foundation. Again
you are suspicious, ulterior motives. Much like the xxxtoolbar is from
Google, the withdrawl is also a cause of paranoi and distruct, conspiracy
and power politics. Sounds to me like you are just disguising your
anti-semitism by waiving the Palistinian cause. I mean you are not even
Palistinian - are you!??
