So what was this study? How was it conducted? Who financed it? Was it
pear reviewed?
There are many, many different types of day care and reasons for day care.
Also many ways to interpret such results. Consider, for instance, that we
have more single mothers than ever before and that most of them work.
Consider also that families don't typically live in the same communities for
several generations. So there are many offspring of single moms in the
cheapest day care they can find. Those families have a tough time all
around. That tough time cannot be blamed on day care.
Consider my case: my wife and I are both professionals. We could have
afforded to live on my salary and have my wife stay home with the kids. But
her mental health depended on her continued working. We shopped and found a
quality day care with competent staff. We also moved the kids from a day
care that didn't meet our expectations. The day care we settled on had a
wall thought out program, lots of supervision, and our kids entered school
ready to learn. Now in their pre-teen years, our kids are grounded, well
disciplined, and doing great in school. They also have two caring parents
at home and my wife has arranged her work schedule so that she can be home
after school.
How kids do is more a matter of family life than daycare.
Also the comment about taxes: well how about what families seem to need
that they didn't need a generation ago. My parents never had two cars.
More people lived in cities with mass transit. We never had more than one
TV (and don't now either). People have more toys and bigger houses than
ever before...this in spite of suggestions of higher tax burdens. People
have been crying about taxes for generations. So please show your numbers.
