| Subj: Dining recommendations in Queens |
From: imber@maniform.com Hi: I grew up in Queens, but have spent more than half my life in Manhattan, and I'm sorry to say that except for a few spots, I've lost touch with what's great out there. Over the next two weeks I'll be spending a lot of time on a project with some colleagues. We'll mostly be in the MoMA Queens area, around 30th Avenue and Queens Blvd. But we'll have transportation much of the time. Whenever people ask for recommendations I suggest they be specific. Here are three places I know and enjoy, although I know there are tons more. These may serve as starting points for what we are seeking. Joe's Shanghai - the Flushing location is FAR superior to Manhattan, in my opinion. We'll probably make a stop there. Sripraphai in Woodside - We thought this place was superb, and know that it's authentic from Thai friends. I only wish we were more adept at ordering. The Greek Captain - on 36th Ave in LIC. The atmosphere is fun and when I take out-of-towners there they have a good time. I know that there's better Greek nearby, but the fish is pretty good there, although prepared in a very pedestrian fashion. You can see that we don't require anything fancy, just fun, fresh, etc. and most of all good quality and thoughtful preparation. But our colleagues are well-traveled and have discriminating palates, so we do want to leave them with some impressive memories, if possible. Your suggestions and advice are very gratefully sought.
