XPost: nyc.announce, nyc.general, nyc.politics XPost: nyc.seminars From: abc@def.com The Rite-Aid store on Church Ave. & E. 3 St. Brooklyn is where this happened, but it is probably typical of Rite-Aid and many other stores. It's the old scam of the checkout scanner charging more than the price on the shelf, ad, or price sticker. The shelf price for 8 oz. Folger's coffee is clearly stated as $3.99 - "on sale." The register scanner charges $5.99. The cashier, informed of the correct price, insists the $5.99 is correct. Upon my insistence, she checks the sale flyer and finds that $3.99 IS correct, but she STILL insists on the $5.99 price. I demand to see the manager, and he grudgingly corrects the charge, without apology. The shelf and sticker price for Rite-Aid mouthwash is $2.99. The scanner rings up $3.49. Again the cashier, told of the "mistake", tries to evade the matter. After again summoning the manager, the charge is grudgingly corrected, and I was made to feel uncomfortable for insisting on being charged the correct price. No doubt this scam will continue, despite complaints I intend to file with the Dept. of Consumer Affairs and the BBB. I wouldn't blame any victim of these unscrupulous practices for resorting to SHOPLIFTING to get justice. Just be sure that before leaving with the item concealed, you locate and remove the sticker that sets off the detector when you walk out. Watch out for the cameras too. Yes, this is theft and it is illegal, but is it any different than what these thieving retailers are getting away with every day? I would not do this, but as I said, such stores deserve it when it happens. BOYCOTT RITE-AID! --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
