Look, I'll take a back seat to no one in this area. I've lived
around the corner from the MC since the late seventies. I'm from the
original group of people who moved down here because we worked in the arts
and didn't have any money. There's a tiny core of us who are still in that
same world, while the Tribeca around us has turned into a kind of hell on
earth for us. We all wear bulls-eyes on our heads from the landlords'
perspective. I lived here when cabs would not take me down here, and now
limos line my corner.
What I'm saying is that people should not taint a discussion of
good dining in this city with a political agenda. If I come to Queens to
eat, WHICH I DO, I don't want to be looked at as some sort of usurping
agent of the gentry. I'm just a guy who's interested in eating good food.
Make sense? Can't afford expensive places, so going out to Queens can often
be a slice of heaven I'll thank one and all not to deny me.
