Subj: FDR drive is a killer road

 You're a mind reader!

I never took FDR before last week as I am unexperienced, avoid high speeds,
most important having taken Metro (subway in the US) all my life I am not
too good with roads so I take slower but sure way to Manhattan Bridge via 1,
2nd (best, Avenue on which I live in Spanish Harlem!) and 3d avenues.

So a week ago I thought it's time to explore something I walked up and down
for years as a pedestrian, I was terrified. After LIRR, Belt Parkway, Long
Island in throughout in general, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. this FDR was a
rollercoaster "fun", I was near heart-attack. A few potholes of
UNACCEPTABLE size for a highway speed, that can translate into $100's in
repair (I avoided at the last moment) doesn't even count, it's the pavement
quality below 86th street it deteriorates and becomes some gravel road in
certain sections, hard to maintain wheel control

I will continue avoiding FDR, one time was enough. West Side Highway/Jackie
Robinson? and then Riverside Drive to my part-time work at Columbia
University amnd City COllege PHd program is a pleasure, especially in a
sunny dry day, park-side atmosphere, German-quality highway. FDR is a
direct opposite, city officials sometimes make me feel owning a car is a
crime and we all must have stupid McDonalds jobs and be poor and be ashamed
of owning a "guzzler" My "guzzler" makes upward 40 miles/gallon unladen
(with spare, etc. removed), I love subways, I hate polluting air and paying
extra for gas/repairs, but my work requires OCCASIONAL driving, the porholes
I caught with my eyes last time on FDR are enough to through inexperienced
 driver out of lane.
