And bear in mind that the requirements of news servers in this area
vary. Some just don't care. Most (and some news *readers*) require
something syntactically valid (ie something that *could* be an email
address). And some require a real address that belongs to you, or
which you have permission to use.
For the second group, it is usually recommended that you use an
address ending in ".invalid", which means that system resources will
not be wasted trying to deliver the undeliverable. However, this
should not be the only change you make to an address you actually use,
since it is simple for an automated system to remove it. For the third
group, there is me@privacy.net, the owner of which makes it available
for anyone to use. However, some people filter stuff from that address
out, since it gets used for a lot of spam and other junk. The
alternative is to get a throwaway Hotmail or Yahoo! address - nobody
says you have to actually *read* the mail that goes to it, although,
if you don't, it is polite to make the fact clear, as in my sig.
