That depends on the newsgroup. If it's a private newsgroup (e.g.
internal to your workplace) then you ought to be able to change
the group name if you are the admin of the news server, and if
you do it to the news server's group listing (i.e. if you change
the name, it is changed for all users). I'm not sure how in
your case. Typically, it's done by telling the server to remove
the original group and create a new group with the new name.
Oh, maybe that's the problem. Newsgroup renamings are usually
(always?) a "remove" followed by a "create" ("newgroup" actually),
so maybe that's what you actually need to do.
If it's one of the external newsgroups, say the Big-8, you can
change the name only internally, but if you do you won't see
any subsequent messages from external source intended for the
group (because messages are filed by group name and you would have
effectively deleted the original group). Otherwise, you cannot
change external groups' names. Big-8 groups cannot be renamed
right now; that's Big-8 policy.
