 The list varies from server to server because every service has 
 different policies on what groups to carry.  As a result, there 
 is no such thing as a definitive list of newsgroups.  Anyway, 
 on most usenet servers, simply connecting to the server 
 automatically causes a list to be downloaded (unless you have a 
 "download subscribed groups only" setting turned on) and saved 
 in a file (.newsrc?).  However, if you are strictly a google user, 
 I'm not sure how to get that list, or if you can at all.
