It's utterly staggering that you would call it "elitist" to suggest that
not everything is the same when using different kinds of cameras. I am
sitting here in total awe at the outright stupidity of that statement.
Nearly every day I start to reply to a post only to realize that my
reply makes no sense in the context of the poster's camera, and then I
either change my answer, or cancel the followup completely because I
don't know how to answer the question in the context of that kind of
camera.
Frequently you see questions answered in a way that is of no use to the
person asking the question, because he's using, say, a p+s camera and
the person replied with an answer that is correct for an SLR.

Your proposed split is nothing I would be interested in. I don't want
to split off "advanced" topics. It's also completely baffling that you
call this proposal "elitist" while *you* are the one suggesting that the
"advanced" photographers run off to their own group, leaving the beginners
behind.
