The response to your question was posted in MWS. And I think in one
of the above threads. But her it again:
For one, they are about jamming up this news group with dribble.
That's the very general argument moderation factionists are making.
And this - to some degree - gives rise to certain levels of perceived
hypocrisy. Note some of this dribble I read, and have posted dribble
myself. It's the double standards arguments, troubling as they are,
that are hard to digest.
More to the point, I think you understand exactly what they're about.
You know, I love unmoderated MWS and hold it in high regard. OT posts
and crosposting is not - nor ever has been - a problem for me because
with click of a mouse I have a choice. And abundant backup
applications are a second-line of defense -- it's like (with filters)
they're enough troops on-the-ground to protect the faint at heart.
And pertaining to OT posts -- I encourage these kinds of posts if
that's someone's cup of tea. That said, since one of the important
issues raised by factionist for moderation, is a concern for
so-called newbies when they visit MWS and take a look at all the
crossposting that have nothing in common with screenwriting, then
posts like the referenced-above (and tons more) should be an issue for
you. I know you are a pretty smart guy and I surmise you're capable of
understand that.
Once again, that's where the perceived hypocrisy raises its dainty
little head. Seriously now, reading through many one of the
off-colored (albeit witty) posts in question - new folks have got to
think they've reached misc.erotica.silly.shit.
And any reasonable person could argue newbies would rather choose
Jai's X-posts over this sort of stuff. I'm sorry, but that's just a
plain laughably matter (but not funny).
For the record, this is not defending Jai but it does make a strong
argument for moderation factionist having double standards.
And to a large degree (as evidenced by some of Dean Jo's post, et al.)
I think there is an active element of xenophobic behavior.
My opinions.
