 Most non-photogs who know the term, and will point at a camera 
 and say "That is an SLR" would not be able to recontruct the 
 accronym to its meaning... but they do *know* that "that camera" 
 is an SLR... it is popular nomenclature... and in turn if they 
 decide they want to know more, they would recongnize: 
  
 rec.photo.digital.slr for what it is intended to be.
